Drilled meter panel708 viewsIn this photo, the ground wire has been secured to the meter panel using a self drilling-self tapping sheet metal screw. This type of installation is hazardous as the installer drilled directly into the wiring area of the circuit breaker portion of the panel. In addition, the ground wire was simply wrapped around the screw without benefit of a proper wire lug as required by the NEC.

Ground connection to hinged panel door441 viewsIn this photo, the ground wire is connected to a screw on the hinged portion of the breaker panel door. This connection is not suitable because it requires the cable to flex when the door is opened. In addition, the hinge is not a solid ground connection due to the fact that it is moveable. Moreover, the wire is not secured by a suitable clamp at the screw.
